An intro to Heat press printing with Kate Scarlet Harvey

Using a heat press is a quick and often mess-free way to get into printing. Join print designer Kate Scarlet Harvey as she talks through various ways to use a heat press to create your own collection of printed textiles and upcycled apparel using heat transfer techniques.
Kate will talk you through her practice – how she gathers shapes to use for her designs and different heat transfer techniques. You will build a ‘shape library’ and a collection of samples, and then you will have free rein to play with layering and create your fabric collages. Bring your sketchbook to work from, or use the Off the Rails building and garden as inspiration.
There will be a range of 2nd hand sweatshirts and fabric available for printing onto, but please bring anything else you would like to decorate – eg. jackets, shirts and cushion covers. Natural and man-made fibres are ok but keep stretch fabric to a minimum! Suitable for all levels of experience.

Kate Scarlet Harvey is a designer based in Dundee. She is known for her joyful abstract graphic prints. She trained in printed textiles at DJCAD, graduating in 2017 with the Tailor’s Trade of Dundee award for Innovation in Style, Cut and Structure. Since then, she has collaborated with V&A Dundee, The Tate, and various Dundee-based organisations, working in print, graphic design and illustration capacities. She has worked with multiple young people on up-cycling and print design workshops.
