Create a hand-bound leather / pleather journal in this creative workshop with bookbinder Cass Barron
We are delighted to welcome Cass Barron, expert bookbinder and teacher to Off the Rails Arthouse. Cass is based in Edinburgh and you can find out more about her on both her website and facebook page. Many artists are interested in learning about making books as a way of showing their work or by personalising sketchbooks. The choice is yours.
This is an afternoon introduction to bookbinding. It is suitable for bookbinding beginners as well as those that have dabbled in bookbinding before. No previous experience required – all welcome!
We’ll use Flat White paper for the bulk of your book, made from recycled coffee cups – great for watercolour, sketching and general note taking. There’ll also be an opportunity to add in decorative papers, envelopes and maps to personalise your book, before binding your pages together with a decorative exposed stitch. Finish off by adding a nifty fastening to ensure your book is functional and fabulous!
Everyone will leave the workshop with an A6 finished book, which makes for an great sketchbook, notebook, personal journal or gift for someone special, plus the skills to make more at home.
Cost £35, including most materials, tea and coffee
