This first session is for – Early stage career- up to 4 years working.
Help develop your practice through this supportive, structured and positive session.This session is for those in the early stages of their career- up to 4 years and is open to all disciplines. The day will be lead by Carol Sinclair and Claire Heminsley.
You will work in a group of 5 people and be guided through the structured process of presenting and receiving feedback. Each participant will have an hour to present a small selection of work (3-5 pieces) and hear feedback from the rest of the group. The selection can be work in progress, sketchbook work or finished pieces. Physical work is preferable and you must be able to carry it up stairs yourself.
Fife Contemporary are collaborating with Off the Rails Arthouse to support artists creative development in Fife by offering this Constructive feedback session at subsidised prices. The day fee is £15 (normally £52)

A bit about Carol Sinclair
Carol Sinclair is a ceramics graduate and qualified business adviser and coach and has been running her own business for 33 years. She combines her ceramics practice with her work as a freelance business adviser, trainer and project manager. She has worked across all creative sectors and has a particular interest in working with individual practitioners in achieving a balance between creative and business development. Carol organises and participates in projects across Scotland and internationally, and her clients include British Council, Applied Arts Scotland and World Craft Council Europe. Her projects bring people together to collaborate and co-operate, to help increase skills, confidence and self belief. She champions the constructive feedback process as valuable way to reflect on personal ambitions to clarify why we do what we do and why it’s important.
A bit about Claire Heminsley
Claire Heminsley studied textiles at The Glasgow School of Art. She set up INCAHOOTS over 30 years ago and expanded her work to include illustration. During this time, she has worked on a wide range of commissions, exhibitions and projects. Claire works with a broad range of media and consequently has a diverse output, from detailed scraperboard prints to more experimental sculptural and mixed media pieces for exhibition. Her last solo exhibition ‘Objects of Celebration’ embodied all aspects of her practice. In 2021 she was awarded a Creative Scotland Open fund grant for a research project called ‘Almost a map, Almost a word.
Alongside this she has taught design, textiles and illustration in further and higher education and for workshops throughout Scotland. Her design practice feeds into her teaching and vice versa providing a perfect combination. She has been a board member of Off the Rails Arthouse since its inception.
