Fifty years ago, the year of the summer of love, a group of young people began studying at art colleges in Dundee, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. They then scattered to launch careers in art and design, teaching, management and other areas. A chance encounter at North Fife Open Studios in spring 2016 led to them contacting each other, rekindling their friendships and deciding to hold an exhibition of their artwork, in celebration of a lifetime of artistic achievement. The result is ‘RECONNECTIONS’ with work on show by artists Jean and Hugh Ashcroft, Dorothy Walker, Kaline Douglas, Maggie Martin, George Cord and Fran McDonald.
The reconnections title is not only about how the group met up after a number of years. It applies to the wide range of artwork on show and the many cross-currents which exist across different media. Expect to see drawing and painting, textiles, graphic work, and subject matter which explores different ideas and makes links between them. It also, of course, makes reference to the railway line which connects the three cities, and centres on this delightful venue in Ladybank.
The exhibition is free and the artists will be on hand to talk about their work. It will be open on Sunday 27th, as well as during the week.
A private view with refreshments will be held all day on Saturday 26 August. All very welcome.
