In the summer of 2018 a group of 10 people from different individual landscapes, came together to make work with Fraser Taylor to test ideas in the beautiful, neutral space of the Arthouse and Ladybank’s community garden. The atmosphere is supportive, non-judgemental and always constructive. Here, we challenge the comfortable preconceptions and grooves that we have slipped in to. In discussion, we try to reject opaque language while at the same time expressing diverse ideas and untangling some complex world-views.
Something new and personal comes from making connections between abstract ideas and a practical process; making and mark-making with very simple direct methods. Sometimes the image, in a sense, makes itself – no mark is too unimportant to speak. We encourage each other to pare back work and, often, leave it be.
This show is a snapshot of where we all stand in relation to this space and experience.
