We are delighted to welcome our Ladybank Station neighbour Kirsty Lorenz, for an evening presentation about her stunning work. Many of you will know Kirsty’s studio which is based on the station platform and will have seen examples of her work as you go past on the train. Find out more about her work at https://www.kirstylorenz.com/
Kirsty Lorenz is a visual artist for whom flowers are a central subject, depicting them in different ways and contexts through painting, drawing, mixed media and installation. She will talk about how her work has evolved, the ideas and inspiration behind it, and her creative processes in making the work. This includes her ongoing project ‘Votive Offerings’, and her new work exploring the subject of plants, magic and medicine. ‘Votive Offerings’ begun in 2014, is a series of portrayals of flower posies she has made and left around Scotland, and further afield. The work explores the motif of the posy as gift, prayer or message, as well as the poetics of the act of making and leaving the posies in different environments or locations. To date she has painted approximately 150 ‘Votive Offerings’ inspired by wild flowers, poisonous flowers, vegetable and herb flowers and the work of 18th century botanical artist Mary Delany.
Come and join us for a very inspiring evening.
