A drawing workshop with Dominique Cameron.
This is a workshop with a difference – not to be missed. Let Dominique tell you about it herself.
‘I am an artist based in Fife. My practice starts with walking as a means to explore different landscapes. I mark routes on maps which I return to repeatedly and which I draw, paint, converse, write and film. I am interested in knowing a place in its many guises of history, weather, time of year, light, occupancy to name a few. Last year I completed walks in Montrose and Leith. This year sees me in a small piece of Fife woodland which I have been returning to since July last year and will finish this summer. It has been fascinating to explore this complicated space. I have been making large scale monochrome paintings in the wood during the day and at night, seeking to articulate the space and also during my time there to attempt to learn something of its language and become a small part of this landscape.
During this one-day workshop we shall be exploring the woods in Ladybank with the aim of making works directly in the landscape using paint and drawing materials. As I said I am working largely in monochrome as I am interested in the tonal properties of blacks – there are many blacks, all with their different qualities in which you can explore tone and form. So if you come along don’t expect green paint !
The idea is that we create a direct response to the trees working on a variety of scale from the small to very large using pre-prepared paper. So bring your boots and sense of adventure as we venture into the woods to discover what it is like not just to observe but to dwell a while in the company of trees’.
