Sarah Knox is a well-established painter and printmaker based in Edinburgh. Her paintings are inspired by the spirit of place, and explore the poetry of dissolving form, atmosphere and light. Be inspired by the beautiful work on her website: www.sarahknoxgallery.co.uk
In this one-day workshop Sarah will help you to explore watercolour and show you how to reflect colour, atmosphere, space and light within landscape. Come with an open mind and experiment with paint, collage and pigments. It is a wonderful opportunity to explore your creativity and connect, engage and play with developing colour palettes through a series of studies. You don’t have to be experienced in watercolour to benefit from this workshop – beginners are also welcome.
Please bring along photos of landscape or landscape studies. Bring your brushes, sketchbook and watercolours and Sarah will provide the rest! The cost of the workshop includes specialist papers and some painting materials.
To find those ephemeral moments, Sarah herself is out in all weathers and all lights – plein air sketching and making immediate responses to the landscape. In the studio – tonal studies reinterpret the composition, and a series of watercolours further refine the subtleties of colour. Multiple studies develop in oil on canvas or primed paper, layering glazes over opaques while using pure pigment to intensify colour.
Sarah’s exhibits in the UK and Europe. Recently, Sarah represented Scotland in the Fabriano in Acquarello 2018 international watercolour exhibition, and her work received critical acclaim at Pittenweem Arts Festival 2018.
‘Marrying oil paint’s depth of hue with watercolour-style fluidity, Sarah Knox’s impressionistic paintings and prints gorgeously conjure coastal and mountain vistas, often of the Highlands and Hebrides…’ The Scotsman, Pittenweem Arts Festival 2018
