Making A Tunnel Book

A wonderful opportunity to work with renowned artist Brigid Collins. Suitable for both artists and designers, this weekend workshop with take you on a creative journey which will inspire you and invigorate your work.

A tunnel book is made up of multiple leaves bound together like an accordion which, when viewed from the front, creates an illusion of depth. Beginning by looking at historical and contemporary examples of tunnel books, the construction of a tunnel book will be demonstrated and you will start by making a ‘dummy’ to learn the process, before going on to create a simple tunnel book, inspired by a short walk in Ladybank. Making visual notes along the way, you will record your impressions and experiences to use back in the Arthouse. The afternoon will be spent developing these impressions into a tunnel second ‘dummy’ book form, connecting the structure of the book, with its visual unfolding of layers, to the sequential unfolding of your walk. These forms will be discussed at the end of the day and a plan made for a more finished version of each of your books, using appropriate materials, which you will then go on to make, on Sunday.
