Saturday 20th May at 10:00am – 4:00pm
Join local wildlife and landscape artist Julie Campbell for a day of exploring working with limited palettes. Julie’s landscape, wildlife and comic art features bold lines and a limited choice of colours, giving her work a stylised simplicity while preserving nature’s depth of detail. Have a look at her website for inspiration. This is a one day workshop suitable for those looking to experiment with limited palettes or looking to try out an illustrative style.
Julie will start with an introduction to her work and her inspirations. She will talk about her processes, detailing the techniques and steps she takes she takes to transform wild spaces and faces into finished pieces on a digital platform.
Participants will then work with marker pens to enable bold strokes and colour blocks. We will then explore mark making, complementary colour choice, working with colour transitions and working our way up from small studies to a final piece rendered in a few colours of your choice.
All materials such as marker pens and paper will be provided, but participants can bring their favoured media to use if they wish. Participants should also bring an image of a landscape, animal or other subject to use an inspiration for a final piece.
A self-taught artist, Julie’s joint passion for the outdoors and drawing sees her sketching Fife’s wonderful natural landscapes on walks and adventures with her family.
Starting with detailed pencil sketches, Julie then works digitally, rendering her finished works with bold lines, and a carefully chosen select palette of colours. Julie turns these illustrations featuring her favourite natural spaces and faces into prints, accessories, decorations and homewares.
Julie also writes and illustrates her own original comics featuring stories about the emotional and spiritual journeys that we take in our lives.
