Our very own Treasurer, Grant Newell is showcasing his handmade books and journals as part of this years Open Studios North Fife event. He will talk you through the design and construction process and will have work for sale. He will demonstrate that this wonderful process is a good way to upcycle and reclaim used materials, particularly leather, maps, wrapping paper.
A dab hand at “doing the books” in his former life as an accountant, Grant is showing us just how creative he can be at making the books as well.
Grant’s addiction to handmade books started in 2020, as lockdown gripped us all. Grant discovered the online tuition being developed by Cass Barron from Edinburgh and enjoyed how he could incorporate elements of his other artwork into his books.

Grant has worked on several commissions, where a book can be handmade to incorporate elements that fit with the recipients wishes and desires. Every single element that goes into a book can be customised.
